The pet industry is a profitable one, with many segments and new gadgets coming out every month. Having the right eCommerce platform and setting your digital business could be a frustrating endeavor, especially if you have to do your research. Where do you start? How do you start? What’s the best way to start?
As a SEO Analyst for Flexpetz.com, I have helped our company build many platforms. We have tested and tried the best strategies for implementing a digital store front. This has given us the information you are looking for, and it can be implemented into any industry, not just for pets.
What do we use to make us successful? Well, have you ever heard of WordPress? It’s one of the fastest and best growing CMS platforms on the Internet today. Not only is is user-friendly for administrators but it also brings a lot to the table when it comes to SEO. Using the WordPress platform, we can install a plugin called Woocommerce.
Woocommerce ( recently purchased by the makers of WordPress ) is one of the most user-friendly and best systems to deploy your new eCommerce store. Not only is it easy to use, but it brings a lot of features to your category pages and more options than other ecommerce sites.
Many hosting providers give you the option to install WordPress automatically with a system called “One Click Install.” Ask your hosting provider how to do this. Once WordPress is installed, installing Woocommerce is a breeze. It has an installation guide out of the box. Once you have installed Woocommerce, you will need other plugins to make your site rock.
- Yoast SEO ( best SEO Plugin Free )
- Yoast Woocommerce ( It’s 49 bucks but it is worth it )
- Woocommerce Product Add-on ( Let’s talk about upsells. Have the customer add anything they like in a nice drop down. Selling custom T-shirts? This is best.)
- Woocommerce Predictive Search ( An awesome plugin for searching through your products)
- Woocommerce Booster ( Add reports, and change the “Add to Cart” )
Above is our Swiss army knife of tools. Of course, Woocommerce may have other plugins to fit your needs, but these are the basic ones that help us dominate in our segments.
It’s all about the categories
Don’t just install and link to the category pages, create the right landing pages for your products, whether broad or specific. Creating a landing page with great content can help you boost your conversions. For example, you can create a page for “dog food” and within the page explain on what the major brands are and your product or your vendor’s products could be the highlight, then with short codes you can add a list of products by SKU numbers on that same landing page. Allow people to buy that product and have an optimized page for SEO. A perfect example would be to create review landing pages. These review landing pages would help you review a product and sell the product or products on the same landing page.
Need Help with your Store?
There are plenty of resources available on YouTube or Lynda.com. Best of all, it is so user-friendly, that you can learn in 5 days how to use both systems.
Creating your store for your own pet supply company could be difficult, but with Woocommerce and other plugins for WordPress, you are on to a fresh start.
